Time

Well this is going to be a blog about a restoration project, at 1875 Walker, not really a historic restoration but an adaption of buildings to current standards and space needs.  We purchased 1873-75 Walker in 1986 from an elderly woman who was born at 1875 Walker (she was in her 80's). Her parents had come over in the great migration of Germans in the 1800's.  We have an oral history from her that I will include in another post.

This is the earliest photo we have found of the property (I've highlighted the buildings on 1875 Walker).  This was taken in 1870.  I believe that the original steeple from St Paul's Church is in the distance which was replaced by a dome after the church burned in the late 1880's.

  1. I love this photo! What is the name of the street in the foreground if you know.

  2. It's hard to say, it's not within part of the current street grid, given the slope and view it is running between Dorchester Ave. and Eleanor Pl, perhaps connecting to the top of Main Street incline which opened in 1871.
